UC eXpress was formed in 2002 when TALX acquired and integrated the top two unemployment cost management firms, the former Frick Company and the Gates McDonald unemployment cost unit. In March 2004, TALX further obtained more expertise in unemployment cost control by acquiring Sheakley Unemployment Services.

In 2005 TALX further expanded its capabilities with two additional acquisitions: Jon-Jay Associates and the unemployment tax management business of Employers Unity, Inc.
